Terrifying 3D animation shows how deadly Oppenheimer bomb actually works


The film, of course, tells the story of Robert Oppenheimer and of his role in the Manhattan Project, the codename given to the planning and construction of the atomic bomb.

Oppenheimer, the self-professed ‘father of the atomic bomb’ who also referred to himself as ‘death, destroyer of worlds’, was the main figure in the splitting of the atom which led to the devastating effects of the atomic bomb.



The first bomb, nicknamed Little Boy, was dropped on the city of Hiroshima on August 6 1945, killing tens of thousands of people in mere seconds, reducing many to immediate ash. Days later a second bomb was dropped, this time nicknamed Fat Man, onto the city of Nagasaki with similar effects.

It’s believed that over 200,000 people died following the catastrophic bombings. Millions of others have been left severely affected as a result.

Esme Lower on her larger-than-life illustrations of bold feminist characters


When you stop to look at Esme Lower’s illustrations, her love for the inordinate is clear. And at a closer look, her knack for musicality and playfulness can be found within her characters’ unique proportions. Currently living in Bristol, where she also studied, her artistic style initially “gravitated towards realism”, she tells us. “It’s the style I carried over to my digital illustrations during my university years. At the time, self-doubt and mental health battles prevented me from venturing beyond my comfort zone”. Last year, however, she started embracing mural design after joining a collective in Bristol, which gave her the confidence to explore an array of styles and larger works accessible to the public. And now, she creates larger-than-life illustrations where women characters are placed at fore.



From graffiti to posters, Bristol is a city brimming with street art. So naturally, this has gone on to inform much of Esme’s influences. “I get to see Rowdy and Hazard One during my daily bike rides to work,” she tells us. With a style that is constantly changing due to her experimentation with proportion and “bold feminist characters”, she is in the business of embracing “happy accidents”. And having a path that she believes has seen a strong correlation between her mental health and her ability to create, Esme is adamant on fuelling creativity and play into her life at every turn, from the city and the people to her characters.

5 Tips for Better High-Speed Circuit Design


High-speed circuit design is one of the most fundamental, yet challenging areas of electronics design. High-speed circuits are commonly used today, as standards like USB, HDMI, and PCIe require most professional electrical engineers to delve into the world of high speed. Looking to the future, we see a general trend of increasing clock frequencies across the board, meaning high-speed signals will become even more common. If you’re an electronics designer today, there’s simply no avoiding high speed.



High-speed signals introduce extra complexity and unique technical challenges that make designing hardware less straightforward. One of these technical considerations is impedance matching—a unique and lesser-known area of circuit design. In this contribution, I will cover the basics of impedance matching and share 5 tips to ensure that any high-speed circuit design works as intended.

All conductors in an electrical circuit have a characteristic impedance given the aggregated contributions of parasitic capacitance, inductance, and resistance. In most lower-speed systems, the impact of these parasitics is negligible since the effects of inductance and capacitance scale with frequency. However, once frequencies start getting high enough, these parasitics are no longer negligible, and transmission line effects come into play.

2023 Hyundai Verna spied undisguised; exterior design leaked


Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has disclosed the dimensions and specifications of the new 2023 Verna. As per the brand, the mid-size sedan will get the best-in-segment wheelbase of 2,670mm and a width of 1,765mm. The launch of the new Verna is scheduled for 21 March, 2023. And ahead of its launch, the exterior of the sedan has been leaked completely in the recent spy shots.


As seen in the image, the new Verna gets a complete design overhaul from all dimensions. Up-front, it features an LED light bar on the lip of the bonnet connecting the DRLs, a new grille, and a sporty front bumper.

On the sides, the door panels get angular and sharp creases complementing the overall aggressive look of the sedan. Then, the B-pillar has been finished in black with a chrome insert integrated into the C-pillar. At the rear, the main highlight is the LED light strip running across the width of the tailgate connecting the revised tail light clusters. Moreover, the rear bumper gets a gloss black treatment.

Under the hood, the new Hyundai Verna will be offered with a 1.5-litre petrol and 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine. That said, the sedan will miss out on a diesel engine. Meanwhile, the bookings of the 2023 Hyundai Verna are currently underway for a token of Rs 25,000.

Watch a Master of Design Evolve in ‘The Graphic Language of Neville Brody 3’


Around 1980, graphic designers were suddenly thrust into newly exalted roles in the pop zeitgeist, and Neville Brody was crowned Britain’s first graphic design rockstar. In the decades after making his initial mark, Brody’s radical approach to design inspired countless others of the era and continues to redefine contemporary visual culture. He ventures fearlessly across different media boundaries, messing with letterforms and page structures while mixing in striking photography whose impact lingers long after a reader has closed the magazine or browser window.



Brody combines and recombines type and other elements freely and experimentally while adhering to underlying design systems, resulting in what Graphic Language co-author Adrian Shaughnessy terms “structured chaos.” His iconoclastic visual language— a mixture of modernist graphic design, punk, and postmodernism informed by 20th century avant-garde movements including Dada, Constructivism, Futurism, and Pop Art— shows both reverence for and disobedience to the assumed tropes of commercial design.

An educator at London’s Royal College of Art since 2011, Brody encourages students to embrace his brand of risk-taking. “You’re simply a practitioner in communication,” he tells them. “You might make a poster or a sound piece. You might design a physical space, or write a novel. We are trying to teach in such a way that your response is appropriate to the message you’re trying to communicate.“

Silicon Labs Spins Bluetooth SoC and MCU for Small Form-factor Designs

 With a goal of serving the design needs of small form-factor embedded systems, Silicon Labs is rolling out families of MCUs and wireless SoCs in tiny packages.


 

With these sizes, the devices are well suited for tiny, battery-optimized device designs. Examples include connected medical devices, wearables, asset monitoring tags, smart sensors, simple consumer electronics like toothbrushes and toys, and more. 

In this article, we delve into the key specifications and features offered by these new devices.The xG27 family of SoCs comprises two ICs: the BG27, for Bluetooth connectivity, and the MG27, supporting Zigbee and other proprietary protocols. Both devices embed an Arm Cortex M33 CPU. The BG27 and MG27 also share a number of oher common features.

The two ICs are available in wafer-level Chip Scale Packaging (CSP) as small as 2.3 mm x 2.6 mm. This makes them well suited for small and unobtrusive device design, such as medical patches, continuous glucose monitors, wearable electrocardiograms, and asset tracking tags. The two wireless SoCs also feature an integrated DC-DC boost converter. This enables the ICs to run off batteries as low as 0.8 V.
